2. Plan your blog subjects for the week in advance.
Know what you’ll be writing about in the week to come. If you blog five days a week, and you post a blog entry per day, then you’ll want to come up with five topics on which to write before that week begins. Over the weekend prior to your blogging week start, think about the topics you want to write about, and plan them, one per day. If you post more frequently, plan as many per day as you need to in order to meet your goal.
3. Be informed about your subject and make time to research.
Setting up a time in which to actually compose your blog every day and knowing what you’ll be writing on isn’t the whole story. You should be educated and informed on what you’re writing about, so as to present useful and relevant information to your readers. Because of this, you’ll need to set aside research time, as well. This may not need to be every single day, but it does need to be at least once a week. Since you know what you’ll be writing on, taking a few hours on one day over your weekend or time off to simply research and outline your blogs will make you incredibly more efficient once you go to do the actual writing.
4. Set aside time to engage in communication with your readers.
Nobody wants to read a blog where the person running it never writes back. You’re there to give information and be a source of knowledge to your readers. If you never check an email or reply to a comment, you’ll have a hard time establishing yourself as a helpful, professional expert and blogger. Set aside time to respond to all inquiries. At the bare minimum this should be once a week, but if you’re a professional blogger, this should be once a day. If you can commit to one hour or so a day, three days a week, on which you reply to communication, you should be doing well on the communication front.
By ensuring you plan, research, and deliver your blog posts on a regular basis and then respond to your reader communication consistently, as well, you’ll be well on your way to establishing yourself in the blogging world. Providing relevant information on a consistent basis draws your readers in, as they know there will always be something new to read, and communicating with them in as little time as possible tells them that you’re sincere and professional and are there to help them.
